Individuals visit our library websites for content, so it’s important to ensure our content is clear, concise, and created with our users’ needs in mind. Our content should help users quickly and easily complete tasks and get the answers to their questions on the first try.

In this new workshop, user-experience librarian Rebecca Blakiston teaches you how people read on the web and how you can harness that knowledge to improve your web content. You’ll learn how to focus on key messages, use active and authentic voice, remove unnecessary words, write meaningful titles and headings, use parallelism, format text for readability, and more.

About the Instructor

Rebecca Blakiston has been a librarian at the University of Arizona Libraries since 2008, and a user experience librarian since 2014. She specializes in user research, user-centered design, writing for the web, and content strategy. In 2016, she was named a Library Journal Mover & Shaker. In 2017, she published her second book, Writing Effectively in Print and On the Web: A Practical Guide for Librarians. She has presented extensively on user research methods, website content strategy, and writing for the user experience.
